*** Body Life Massage Closing, July 1, 2018 ***
Dear Wonderful Clients and Friends,
It is with sadness that I am letting you know that Body Life Massage will be closing, with our last day of operation June 30, 2018.
As some of you may know the city of Clive recently passed ordinance number 1057, effective July 1, 2018 . This ordinance subjects Body Life Massage and other massage businesses to additional licensing requirements.
These requirements include in-person investigations by the Clive police department for the purpose of detecting prostitution and human trafficking.
Body Life Massage was created for the purpose of wellness and healing. My practice is currently regulated by the State of Iowa. That regulation is rigorous and includes education, board certification, licensing and insurance.
The City of Clive’s ordinance is punitive. It characterizes me, and my clients, as suspects to illegal activities. This is simply unacceptable.
It has been an absolute pleasure to serve you and be your massage therapist this past year. Should the business relocate, I will inform you all.
If you have an outstanding gift card, I welcome you to come see me before June 30th. Otherwise I will be issuing refunds to anyone that would request it, please reach out to me directly.
Julie Counsell, LMT
Owner of Body Life Massage
Welcome to Body Life Massage, located at Sweers Family Chiropractic in Clive.
Body Life Massage is locally owned and operated by Julie Counsell, providing individualized massage programs to address athletic fatigue, injury, stress and more. Every person is different and I work with clients to understand specific areas of concern to develop an individualized therapy plan.
Common practice areas include:
Training for an upcoming event or undertaking a regular exercise routine? Focused treatment will reduce recovery time, soreness, help with injury prevention, and provide welcome muscle relaxation to reward and motivate continued training. My clients in marathon training experience increased pace and substantially reduced recovery times between long and short runs.
For people recovering from long or short term injuries, whether acute or chronic, I focus on muscles around affected areas. This treatment releases the “guarded” muscles to significantly reduce day-to-day pain and muscle fatigue. Treatment plans vary based on type of injury. Most clients experience immediate relief, with further or ongoing treatments developed specifically for each person.
The impact of chronic stress on our bodies is well documented and the chemical causes continue to be studied. Symptoms of chronic stress include anxiety, depression, headaches, insomnia, and resulting behavioral changes that affect your health and family relationships. These symptoms may not be consistent nor easily recognizable. I provide therapies shown to positively manage cortisol and other hormonal responses, with long-lasting results. I design individualized treatment plans for people experiencing chronic stress.
